Sam and I have been wanting to try this one for a long time. We’ve heard nothing but good reviews on it and we live in the greater Cincinnati area where you can’t buy it. The closest place to get it is the Chicago area. Now, I’ll drive a good distance to get a good beer, but 8 hours just doesn’t fit into my time frame. Soooo…….as fate would have it, the lovely Mrs. Porch was at work a few weeks ago and mentioned this beer to some of her co-workers. Turns out, her boss has a niece that lives in the Chicago area and was coming home for the holidays. Well, one thing led to another and “Betty” asked her niece to bring a case home with her. Just for me! Her niece agreed and my holiday celebration was complete.
I poured it into my Christmas chalice and it’s appearance was an opaque amber/orange color with a
somewhat frothy head. I found this interesting because most amber ales don’t have an orange hue to them. Anyway, the thick part of the head lasted for about three or four drinks, not a lot of lacing but the top of the beer was covered with a thin head until the chalice was empty. It had a slight malty aroma, but not much. Not overdone with hops but you could certainly taste them. It had a clean crisp finish that left just a little aftertaste. Everything about this beer is good. Personally, I like a little more hoppiness, but I will never pass up the chance to have another one.
This is a very good brew. It could also be a dangerous brew, with a 5.2% ABV and it’s light refreshing qualities, I could see knocking back a bunch of these at a cookout. I’m glad “Betty” got me a case because one led to a second, and quickly a third and so on. I wish we could buy it here because if we could, my beer fridge would never be without them.

****A special thanks goes out to “Betty” and her niece for their contribution to making this review
possible. It is much appreciated.
