I’m not a huge fan of Bock beer but I do like to have one every now and then. I’m more of an Ale guy and I tried this one at 8 o’clock in the morning after working a midnight shift so I’ll admit my taste buds might have been a little impaired. I picked this one hoping it would help me sleep better today. so take this review for what it’s worth.
It poured a cloudy mahogony color, almost like a dark wheat beer, with a nice tan foamy head. A pretty good looking beer. It had a nice chocolatey aroma and tasted the same. It was a little thick on the palate, but that is common with bocks, especially Dopplebock’s. A Nice sweet aftertaste with a long lingering finish. It almost tasted like I was drinking a very cold glass of chocolate milk from a beer mug. The Christian Morlein Emancipator Dopplebock is, in my opinion, one that should be enjoyed with a meal. I had it with a homemade sausage biscuit (remember, I’m working midnights). But it would also be good as an after dinner drink with a good cigar.
Food Pairings: 1) Swiss steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans.
2) Pork roast, dumplings and saurkraut.
