Thanksgiving day and I had to work the 3-11 shift. Couldn’t wait to get home to a piece of my sister-in-law’s awesome pumpkin roll. While I was at work I got a text message from a friend telling me that he just tried Post Road Pumpkin Ale. So I replied by telling him that I really like Brooklyn Brewery’s beer and asked him where he got it. Luck was on my side, he bought it at a convenient store that has just remodeled and built a “Beer Cave” and it’s only three blocks from my house. Lucky thing number two is they are open till 1am and I got off work at 11pm. Lucky thing (for me) number three was, they only had one six pack left. (not so lucky for the next poor sap wanting to try this one.)
Looking for lucky thing number four, good beer. My opinion of pumpkin spiced ales is, they are either good or they are bad. There is a fine line between “enjoyable brew” and “liquid pie”. This one had a good semi-cloudy orange-ish amber color with a decent head. Nice light smell of pumpkin pie spice. So far so good. The taste of pumpkin was definitely there but not overbearing. A nice medium body with a clean finish. The aftertaste is like this: You know when you eat a piece of pumpkin pie and about an hour later you burp and taste it again, but it’s still good? Yeah that’s the aftertaste. But it doesn’t last an hour. This one is kinda light, not overdone like some pumpkin ales. I like it.
Once again the folks at Brooklyn Brewery have come up with a winner. I came home tonight looking forward to my sister-in-laws awesome pumpkin roll and teamed it up with this brew as it turned out to be a veritable pumkin festival for my taste buds.
