Brooklyn Brown Ale

brooklyn-brown-ale1I read an article in Market Watch magazine a few months back that featured a number of micro-brewery’s around the country and one of them was the Brooklyn Brewery. I brought this up at work the other night and one of my co-workers (who, by the way, drinks more beer than me) told me that a lot of restaraunts and bars in Manhattan carry their beers on tap. Finally, I now have a reason to visit New York.

Picked this one up as part of a sampler pack, and I love brown ales. It poured a dark, almost cola color with a nice thick tan head. A sweet and pleasing aroma. It has a nice creamy texture, the way I like brown ales. Some hops mixed with the right amount of chocolate malts. I think I even taste a hint of vanilla. This is a brown ale after my own heart, not too bitter and not too sweet. I like everything about this beer. The look, the smell, the texture and the taste. Especially the taste. I would say that most beer “experts” would write this one off as a mild to medium brown, but of all the browns I’ve tried, this one ranks right up there with the best. May even be the best. JMO. It kind of tastes like a Killians Irish Red with a hoppy attitude.

I drank the two that came in the sampler after working a 3-11 shift and had some popcorn shrimp with it. That was ok but I think it would go better with a grilled steak and steamed broccoli.

Cool review – gonna have to keep an eye out for this Brown Ale, I think Brown Ales or Stouts go well with cigars.
