After a manly work day at the local swim club, you know, cutting down trees, fixing the fence, jackhammering out some old concrete on the tennis courts and such, the guys decided to head to the porch for a nice, cold, well deserved beer. I asked around what everyone would like and to my astonishment, “Dave” said (and I quote) “You know what sounds good? Milwaukee’s Best Light” After a long silence (and I mean a looooong silence) I asked him if he was serious. He asked if I had ever tried it and I said no. So I got a 12 pack each of Milwaukee’s Best Light and Killians. Just in case.
He started to drink it straight out of the can until I explained the benefits of a pint glass and when he poured it, I took a good hard look at it and I have to be honest, it really didn’t look that bad. So I tried one. It was a clear straw like color with a pure white head. If not for the nucleated pint glass it would have dissapated pretty quick but the head hung around a while.  At first it smelled a little like a baby’s diaper but it quickly matured into a more “pretzel burp” smell. The first drink was way thicker than I thought it would be, and it went down fairly smooth. A slight taste of corn came through but other than that, it didn’t really do much for the taste buds. The rest of the time I got the feeling that I was drinking Miller Lite but only spent about half the money. Â
A decent session beer, not one I would recommend out loud, but after a hard day of testosterone filled chores, it wasn’t bad. It has a pretty weak ABV of 4.2%. But “Dave” assured me that this brew consistanly ranks up there with some of the best light beers in the world. But I suspect that this “assurance” has something to with his pitch on getting me to try it. Not a bad beer, but not one I would keep on hand. If you have a low beer budget or can’t stomach beer everyday, this one might be for you. Thanks “Dave” for bringing me back to my roots and for letting me use a picture of you here.
This brew would go with any food from the summertime cookout grill. Also for an all nighter at the campfire but I wouldn’t want to be in your shoes in the morning. Seriously though, I have to admit it was better than I thought.
