Every time I see a beer in a big bottle, I have to stop and check it out. Walking around the beer section at my favorite “beer getting” store, I came across a grocery cart filled with 22oz Rogue Oregon Golden Ale bottles for just a buck fifty apiece. So I picked up a few of them.
When I poured it, I looked at it and something wasn’t quite right. It said “Ale” on the bottle but it looked hazy like a “wheat”. I poured it kind of hard so I let it settle a bit thinking the head would develop a little more thus clearing up the appearance. After a couple of minutes nothing happened, except the head got thinner. The cloudy appearance was here to stay. It smelled a little too sweet to be an ale, but upon tasting it, I was surprised how the aroma didn’t match the flavor. It had a hint of citrus in it’s dry finish, and you know how I feel about fruity beers.  A little slick on the taste buds but not a bad beer. Good lacing and a decent balance but not hoppy enough for my taste buds. Two of these 22 ouncers is about all I could take, I love ales but this one is too sweet and mellow, with not enough bitter hops for me. For the price, I’d get it again but I wouldn’t spend more than 3 bucks on it.
On the other hand, if you like milder beers and ales, this one might be for you. I had it with some pretzels and a can of  squeeze cheese while I watched a college hockey game, and it was pretty refreshing. Would also go good with any type of appetizers. Next time I’ll have it with some tater skins and mozzerella sticks.
