I’ve been eying the line of Dogfish Head beers for a long time and the only thing holding me back was the fact that there are so many craft beers to drink, I simply haven’t gotten around to trying theirs yet. Then, the other day I had a conversation with one of my brothers, while he was grilling some catfish with some of his homemade rubs, about this brewery and that sparked me to buy a sixer of their 60 Minute IPA.
They claim to add Northwest hops during the boiling process once a minute for 60 minutes. Hence the name. It pours a clear light gold color with an impressive head that left a covering on top the entire time. Nice grassy aroma, what you would expect in an IPA, that didn’t go away or weaken as I drank it. At first it tasted very hopped up and dry, but the more I drank it the less dry it seemed to be, but the hops stayed with it without being too bitter. Very smooth on the palate with a lingering finish that made me want another sip. It seemed to dissolve in my mouth before I had a chance to swallow it, but still left a mark on my tastebuds that didn’t let me forget that I just had a great tasting hoppy brew.
This beer is a little pricey, but if I’m going to spend ten bucks on a six pack of beer, I would expect a great tasting beer and the Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA did not disappoint. I will definitely be buying this one again.
Overveiw: Dry, but not real bitter. A mix of grassy-floral-citrus, mostly grassy aroma. Good balance for the taste buds and one you could drink with a lot of situations. This beer would be as good at a formal dinner party as it would with a game of horseshoes at a 4th of July cookout. It would go well with a late night snack of sharp cheddar cheese and crackers but would go REALLY well with some of my brothers grilled lemon-pepper catfish. Maybe if offer up a six pack of this IPA, he’ll cook dinner for me….hmmm….I think I’ll give him a call.
