Ale - Typically heavier and darker than regular beer. Ale tastes a bit more bitter taste than beer does and is a malt beverage.

Barley - A cereal grain that is malted and used in the mash for making beer.

Bock - A very strong, hopped up lager that is normally brewed in winter to celebrate the upcoming spring.

Dry stout - The Irish version of stout, more bitter and contains a higher level of alcohol than the English sweet stout.

Draught - Beer drawn from a keg.

Hops-The flavoring and stability agent used in brewing. They look like little green pine cones and grow on vines. Crucial to balancing the sweetness of malts with bitterness.

Keg- Another word the container draught beer comes in. Usually 1/4 bbls. and 1/2 bbls. are commonly known as “Kegs”.

Lager - Beer that is aged prior to distribution. The aging process goes from 6 weeks to several months.

Malt Beverage - All beers are malt beverages. Not all malt beverages are beer. (ie. Miller Chill, Bud Lime and any other fruited brews.)

Malts - Grains that have been lated and used to make beer.

Pilsner - A beer style that is typically crisp and refreshing, with a light to medium body and a clear, light to deep gold appearance.
