Yuengling Black and Tan

Of all the beers I’ve befriended, this is the first black and tan I’ve ever had. My nephew, JP, who recently finished his 6 year stint in the Air Force, made a trip to South Carolina a couple of weeks ago and brought back with him a few Yuengling Black and Tans. Our good fortune here at beerandcigars.net shined down on us once again as he decided to share them with Sam and I.

As with all the Yuengling beers, it had a very nice looking label. It poured a dark black like a cola, with a dark, caramel colored head that lasted more than halfway down. For a beer with the thick, full flavor texture it had a somewhat mild aroma with a surprisingly light flavor. This is a very smooth and good tasting brew that one could drink more than he should in one night. Not a lot of hops but not too sweet either.

The perfect event for this beer would be at room temperature with a big slab of BBQ ribs. Thanks again JP, for your contribution and service.

Yuengling Traditional Lager

I was first turned on to this excellent lager about a year ago by a co-worker who frequented the east coast. Since then I have been to Washington D.C. three times and look for it everytime I’m there. It has become somewhat of a regional favorite of one of my brothers and I. We have a nephew who just finished his 6 year enlistment with the U.S. Air Force and I went to his welcome home party tonight and he brought home with him a couple of cases of it. He had a short list of people he wanted to share this with and fortunately I was on the list.

Yuengling brewery has been family owned since 1829 and is America’s oldest brewery. It pours a light amber with a white head. Very easy on the taste buds, not a lot of hops. One you can drink all night at the poker table or just a few over a friendly conversation with someone you don’t see very often. One of the best tasting mass produced lagers out there. I wish it was available closer to home. If you get a chance to try this one, don’t pass it up. This was the perfect beer to have tonight as we welcomed our nephew into civilian clothes. Thanks for the beer J.P. but more than that, thanks for your service. Cheers to you and all those who serve to keep our country free.
