I scored the Felipe Gregorio in my Powerhouse 16 purchase, and decided to fire it up while camping. I was sitting around doing a whole lot of nothing, drinking a Goose Island Honkers Ale when I broke this bad boy out.

This cigar comes with a double band, and is marketed as a Thompson Exclusive. The Connecticut wrapper appeared flawless, and looked like a quality cigar. Before I cut it, I did the standard “Squeeze Test”, this revealed no hard spots, and consistent give all throughout.
While I was smoking, I decided that this was indeed a great cigar. Perhaps my first impression impacted me, it is truly a beautiful cigar that packs a lot of flavor. Right now my humidor is a bit full, but would like to have a few more of these babies in the future.
Being marketed as a Thompson Exclusive, I’ll be waiting for these to come on sale then I’ll certainly purchase some. I’m giving this cigar a “B+” and highly recommend trying it.

Last night I was out in my yard, the sun was setting and I thought I’d sit down for a cigar, but wasn’t much in the mood to get all my paper, pencil and other review-related stuff out so I figured I’d smoke one of the Cordovas I still had in my humidor. This is the second Cordova Cigar I’ve smoked since doing my initial review of it earlier last month.
Last week I smoked one at work, and found that it wasn’t as bad as my initial review. The one I had last night didn’t seem bad at all. It had a straw taste to it, but wasn’t bad. It tasted like a decent “Yard Gar” and lasted about 45 minutes to and hour.
So as I thought about it, the only explanation for this is that I got them dried out, and hadn’t been in my humidor long enough to get back to the right humidity. I normally wait a few days after buying new cigars before smoking them, to let them settle out a bit.
Maybe I just got some bad ones, but then again Mr. Porch had the same experience I did with his lot. Well regardless, you shouldn’t have to humidify your cigars for a month before you can smoke them. I’ll upgrade my initial mark of the Cordova from horrible to a low C-.

Don Lugo cigars, which are bought through Thompson Cigars are one of my favorite of the Thompson brand cigars. These guys can be picked up for under a buck a stick, are an excellent compliment to a humidor.
Don Lugo’s are mild to medium flavor cigars that I’ll smoke at work, home or around the campfire. Quite often, Don Lugo will be smoked on Mr. Porch’s porch and of course, is much better with a beer.
In my opinion, what makes Don Lugo cigars so appealing is that they are so cheap, and quality is not sacrificed.

I took the family on a camping trip this week, and after we set up camp I pulled out a bottle of Goose Island “Summertime” and poured it in my camping glass. The pour was wonderful to watch. Not much of a head, as my wife captured in the photo but this beer sure was refreshing. This is an excellent tasting beer without doubt. I plan on keeping several bottles of this on hand for now on.
The cigar I enjoyed with this beer was one I got a couple weeks ago in a combo pack from Thompson Cigars, it’s their brand label that I commonly refer to as “The Thompson Green Label”. This cigar has a great taste, doesn’t have issues with burn and seems to be consistently a good cigar. Something else worth mentioning, I sat this cigar down while I entered a no smoking area, came back out 5-10 minutes later and was able to revive it without relighting it. This is a cigar that is cheap enough to keep plenty on hand, and no humidor should be without.

In my combo I received recently from Thompson Cigars, were 5 Cordova 4-in. x 50-ring gauge cigars. I took one of them to work with me and smoked while on an extended break. Maybe it was because of shipping but the cigar burned really hot and fast, and left me tasting straw in my mouth. By the time the amber got near the band the cigar was super-heated far too much to smoke.
I’m not comfortable with doing a negative review but felt I would be doing a disservice if I didn’t call it like it is. Mr. Porch also bought some of these, I’m not sure how he feels about them.
I intend to smoke the remaining 4 of these, and will certainly update this post if I have a different experience with the smokes to come.
