Left Hand Sawtooth Ale

left-hand-sawtooth-aleI’ve seen brews from the Left Hand brewing co. in stores for a long time but never got around to trying any of them. Too many beers, too little time, you know the story. So the other day I had a surprise visit from my nephew, JP, and he brought with him a sixer of their Sawtooth Ale.

This is an English style ESB, but I didn’t find it to be very bitter at all. It had a nice copper to brownish red color and decent off white head with good lacing all the beer through. You could smell the sweet malts mixed with the hops. It tasted just like it smelled, a little sweet on the palate with an OK hoppy finish that didn’t linger on some ESB’s. I would describe it to taste like a sweeter, but not smoother,  pale ale.  It was a pretty good beer, one of the better ales I’ve had in a long time, but would be better from the tap than from the bottle.  (Like all beers)

I’m sorry I’ve not tried their beers sooner. I’ll not pass on their brews next time. Thanks again JP for contributing to the development of my beer belly.
