This year we were asked to participate in the Edgewood High School Competition Cheerleaders golf outing. Since the competition squad is not a school sponsored team, they have to raise their own money. It is an annual event that helps the squad pay for competition and coaches fees, uniforms, shoes, travel expenses, etc., etc. We decided that this would be a perfect opportunity to put our mark on the local community, and help the girls out.
We both pitched in the $65 required to play, and we also decided to donate more and went ahead and sponsored a green. We don’t make much money from this site, and certainly don’t make enough to cover the sponsorship fees but it really felt good to be able to do this.
Once we decided to sponsor the green, we decided we could do a little bit more and donate some items for door prizes. We donated a humidor that Mr. Porch had from a cigar combo purchase, as well as some 5 Vegas Shorty tins, two decks of playing cards with some poker chips and some other small cigar related goods. I never met the person who was lucky enough to win them!
Since we decided to do this, we figured that we can start doing things like this more often. We have things around that we get from samplers we purchase, as well as some donated goods to the website.
The golf outing was a blast, except for the 30 minutes we were stuck in the pouring rain, but we were able to keep our cigars from getting wet by putting them in a plastic bag. We were going to donate some used golf balls afterward but when the day was over we didn’t have any left. Most of them ended up in the woods. Beer of choice for this outing – Michelob AmberBock. Cigar of choice – 5 Vegas Gold.
